Q: How many acres are there to hunt on and what is the cover and terrain like? A: The total hunt area consists of ~400 acres which is divided into 30-40 acres per party. The cover consists of tall milo stubble, warm season grasses, overgrown fence rows and overgrown ditch banks. The terrain is fairly gentle with some hills, but for the most part easy walking.
Q: What kind of licensing is required to hunt? A: Indiana residents need a hunting license and habitat stamp. Out of state hunters need an Indiana Game Preserve (only) permit. All of these can be purchased at Dave's Gun Shop which is located ~2 miles north of Meyer Farms (see our Location/Map page). The Game Preserve permit costs less than $10.00.
Q: How many hunters can be in a party? A: For safety reasons it is recommended that the parties be kept to no more than 4-6 hunters. We can also handle several parties at one time including special group hunts.
Q: What is the minimum number of hunters that are required? A: One
Q: Can I bring my own dog? A: Yes. If you do not have a dog, we can arrange a dog and handler for you. Due to the large size of the hunting area, we require a bird dog for each party in order for you to find the birds and have a good hunting experience.
Q: How far in advance do I need to call to book a hunt? A: It depends and is unpredictable. Weekends typically book up the quickest, and sometimes we would need as little as a few hours notice and on some days they book up a few weeks in advance. For this reason, it is very important to call and book a hunt prior to coming.
Q. What kind of choke should be used in the shotgun and what size shot should be used? A: An improved cylinder or modified choke is recommended. For Pheasant hunting, 6 shot is recommended but use 7.5 - 8.0 shot if a combination of birds are going to be hunted.
Q: How long is a hunt? A: Typically the hunts are scheduled for 1/2 days. Morning hunts 8:00 - 12:00 and afternoon hunts 12:00 - dark. Weekdays are usually lighter and times could possibly be adjusted. Special arrangements can be made in advance for full day hunts and special group hunts.
Q: What time zone are you in? A: Central ("Evansville time")
Q: Is lodging and food provided? A: No, but there are hotels, restaurants, and cabins located within four miles (see our Area Services page).
